McTavish conducted environmental assessments and baseline inventory for Bothwell Park, Charles Richardson Nature Reserve, and Campbell Heights Parkland within the City of Surrey (totalling over 140 hectares). The purpose of the assessment was to document existing conditions, conduct a resource inventory, identify suitable habitat restoration, and explore enhancement opportunities.
Involvement
The City of Surrey required environmental consulting to assess and document key ecological values across Bothwell Park, the Charles Richardson Nature Reserve and Campbell Heights Parkland. McTavish completed an environmental assessment that identified current conditions and data gaps to guide future management and protection efforts.
Assessment Approach
The work included a desktop review and gap analysis of all available information, followed by field inventories and detailed reporting and mapping.
Valued Ecosystem Components Assessed
- Vegetation and ecological communities (TEM/SEI)
- Fish and fish habitat
- Wildlife, including birds, mammals, reptiles and amphibians, and wildlife habitat
- Species at risk
- Ecosystem interactions, including habitat connectivity and biodiversity
- Urban forest assessment, including windthrow, significant trees and danger trees
Through this project, McTavish provided the City with a clear understanding of existing environmental conditions to inform responsible planning and conservation.
